It’s officially June, which means Summer is coming! This Summer, protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun with some tip and tricks from Empire Aesthetics.

  • It may seem obvious, but being sure to apply and reapply sunscreen is SO important when it comes to protecting yourself from the sun.
  • When applying sunscreen, make sure that you’re using one ounce of product- which is equivalent to a shot glass – to maximize your product use.
  • Sunscreen should be reapplied EVERY TWO HOURS to ensure that it is actually protecting you.
  • It’s important to find a sunscreen you like enough to actually wear, and that works for your skin type.
  • Use a broad spectrum sunscreen–at least SPF 30 or more!
  • If you’re going to be in/around water use a water resistant sunscreen, you really want to make sure that you are protected in any situation.
  • Even your lips can be burned, so make sure you use a lip balm with at least SPF 30.
  • When it comes to babies, keep children younger than 6 months old completely covered and in the shade.
  • Be mindful of the time of day when going out in the sun. Between the hours of 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM is when the sun’s rays are the most intense, so try to limit your exposure and find shade during those hours.
  • When going outside, sun protective clothing to protect your skin. Items such as a rash guard, or a hat to protect your scalp could make all the difference!

Make sure you’re in the know when it comes to keeping you and your family protected and safe from sun damage. For more information on how to stay protected this Summer, go to www.skincancer.org and stay tuned for more blog posts from us !
